Alla som vill ha lite djupare mening till Quake 2 (och i viss mån även Quake 4) skall läsa denna text! Men bara om ni klarat ut spelet, annars spoliar texten storyn i spelen!
This is a story documenting my lawsuit against the Space Marines.
I am fairly well known. I am the Bitterman, the Marine who took out the Big Gun on Stroggos, when we first invaded. My story is well known, but for those who may be unaware:
I was in a landing pod which misfired in Operation Alien Overlord. I landed not in the capital city, but in an outer base, where I undertook my mission to penetrate Stroggos and disable the "Big Gun," which the Strogg civilization was using to fend off our attack forces. Not only did I succeed in my primary mission, but I also attacked the Makron, a Strogg commander, and defeated him.
I followed my commands to wreak havoc on the Strogg out of loyalty to the Marines and my oath to humanity. However, when I returned, I immediately filed suit against my commanders and the government which enabled them. Unfortunately, I was unable to file suit soon enough to halt the subsequent attack of Stroggos by the Marines, which was also successful due to the sacrifice and bravery of Marine Michael Kane, who was himself captured by the Strogg and converted into a cyborg, yet who persisted in his own mission.
This only validates my complaint. Mr. Kane was incredibly brave and loyal, at the cost of his own future and humanity, but succeeded despite the high command, not because of it.
Therefore, I suggest that the High Command is actually disloyal to the masses of humanity, and acted in bad faith at best, and treasonously at worst. Given the magnitude of their actions' results, I claim treason.
The evidence was clear to me soon after penetration of the outer base in which I landed. I found many of my comrades dead or mutilated even in the outer base, at little or no cost to the Strogg. Through the mercy of Heaven and the training provided me by the Marines, I managed to eliminate the Strogg troops in the outer base and continued my personal invasion, assured that reinforcements were on their way.
However, this was not to be. To the contrary, I encountered many more Marines as casualties, some in various states of torture or mental distress, although most were dead. In no case did I find the remains of Strogg forces, and rarely did I see any evidence of material damage, most of which could be explained by the Strogg' own disregard for casual maintenance.
Furthering my own difficulty, I was constantly within radio contact from forces in orbit, which informed me that not only were forces elsewhere on the surface, but that they were weakened drastically - and while my computer link was helpful, at no point was I assured that I would be extracted or reinforced. Therefore, the fate of humanity was intentionally left up to the will and force of one man, despite backup being available.
In all fairness, there was one moment where external forces were willing to help me: when I called for a successful airstrike before I penetrated the Strogg palace. However, this was the only external help I received.
Adding insult to injury, when I attacked and defeated the Makron, I found myself battling him in a space station, also in orbit, from where my own compatriots were sending information. I submit that those forces in orbit were in far better position to defeat the Makron than I, yet they left it to me.
Therefore, I say that the High Command is guilty of treason of the highest order. Thank you.
