I'm trying to install Red Hat Linux 9 on my laptop. These are the facts if the case:
- I have a compaq 1700EA laptop
- I have 11,98 GB free unallocated space on my hard drive. I intend to use 10 GB for RHL9.
- I have windows XP preinstalled (I will have a dual-boot environment)
I get through steps 1-6 in the installation process without hitches. In step 7 I choose the workstation installation type. I proceed to step 8, where I'm presented with the options to partition the free space on my HD automatically or manually. I choose automatic partitioning with the possibility to review the
allocations made by Disk Druid. When I click OK I receive a message saying that DD cannot
make any partitions (or something to that effect). The explanation is that I haven't made a root-directory (/) or that the free space dedicated to RHL9 isn't enough, which is a bit strange, since the default configuration for the workstation installation requires about 2,1 GB of free space. I go back and try to partition my 10 GB free space manually instead (110 MB for the /boot partition, 2*256 MB for the swap partition and the rest to the root partition). But I get the same error message. There is no getting around it. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong? Or in plain language: HEEEEELLLLPPPP!!!
