While accomplishing the above obligation for all MRHs, OBS will also produce Ultra High Definition (UHD) – also referred to as 4K UHDTV – coverage of all sports, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and the beauty cameras of the Olympic Games, with 5.1.4 immersive sound. The full live 4K coverage of the Olympic Games comes also with the adoption of HDR (High Dynamic Range) and WCG (Wider Colour Gamut) following the BT-2100-2 and BT.2020 ITU standards, respectively.

However, while the upcoming Games is being produced by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) in ultra-high definition (UHD), Young said WBD has opted to broadcast its coverage in HDR.
“The main reason for that is because we’re surfacing every moment of the Olympics,” Young explained. “To undertake 3,800 hours [of live coverage] – and a lot of that is concurrent streams sitting on one streaming platform – we took the view of what is the best experience for an Olympic fan? To have all the content, or to have a certain amount of content based on bandwidth?
“So we’re reliably informed by our technical teams that to ensure we could surface the entire Olympic Games, we should choose HD HDR.”
