The full police report further complicates the picture. Perhaps the most central issue is the first complainant's shifting story as to whether the sexual encounter with Assange the night before the lecture had caused her to fear him. The next day Ardin had organised a ''crayfish party'' - a traditional Swedish summer get-together - for Assange; it was from this event that she sent the tweet that was later deleted, saying that it was 2am and she was partying with the ''most important people in the world''.
eller
he would claim she had asked Assange to leave - yet two witness statements in the police record say that she resisted multiple alternative offers to house Assange elsewhere than her 5 metre by 5 metre bedsit, with its sole double bed. Though she would later claim to have no knowledge of Sofia Wilen, the second complainant, witnesses recorded her as remarking that Assange had ''gone to have sex with the cashmere sweater girl'' - a mildly disparaging nickname that Ardin and her friends had developed for Wilen.
stämmer följande? Om ja...ouch.
Indeed,
initially, Ardin made no complaint to the police of coercive sex at all, merely reporting two unwanted sexual advances that would be charged as misdemeanours in Sweden, and
unprosecutable elsewhere
.
Her accusation of sexual coercion appeared after the senior prosecutor had thrown out the one felony charge, and it was at that point that online accounts were altered. But it was the accusation of the second complainant, Wilen - that Assange had had unprotected sex with her while she was sleeping - that triggered a rape investigation.
But Wilen's account of events does not make it easy for prosecutors. After the sex, she says that she and Assange joked about her being pregnant. They both joked that they would call the child ''Afghanistan''. Hours later, after Assange had left, saying he'd call (he didn't), and following consultation with friends, Wilen decided to report that she'd been raped, and went to a hospital to have a rape-kit prepared. The account offers usable material to both defence and the police, but it may be moot -
messages attached to the file record that Wilen has failed to sign the interview record, and may no longer wish to see Assange charged. All of which makes for a messy crayfish party indeed.
